Slovenia, Ljubljana: Let's walk around Ljubljana at night and let's experience life in Slovenia's beautiful capital. Ljubljana is the largest city of Slovenia. Situated at the middle of a trade route between the northern Adriatic Sea and the Danube region, it is the cultural, educational, economic, political, and administrative center of independent Slovenia since 1991. Follow along as we explore two sides of Slovenia: Ljubljana (city) and Lake Bled (nature). After driving only three hours east of Vicenza we had finally arrived in Ljubljana. On Friday morning, we explored the "Open Kitchen Market" and tried everything in sight. After we headed over to 'Ljubljana Castle' where we were able to see a panoramic view of the city and learn about the history of it's conquerers. We spent two lovely days in Ljubljana and then drove 1 hour north to explore more of the country-side. We checked into our hotel along the lake and went for a canoe ride. Lake Bled is so picturesque! The video and photos don't do it justice. One of the highlights of this trip was going on the lake bled "toboggan". The sledding route is arranged over a very interesting terrain and offers...

The undiscovered land of Slovenia offers so much diversity for such a tiny country. You will enjoy rock climbing at scenic places of the Julian Alps. Slovenia surprises at every step with its natural beauty and there is always something new to discover on your way.
Slovenia is the only country in Europe that combines the Alps, the Mediterranean, the Pannonian Plain and the Karst. The changing landscape is constantly surprising, time and again. You can have one eye on the sea, then look in the other direction and be surrounded by high mountains. Heading up into the forests, you can see the green plains below you. From upland meadows your view stretches into river gorges. This proximity of opposites and contrasts is a hallmark of the country. In Slovenia you can still walk through virgin forest, or watch the grapes ripen on the oldest vine in the world. You can hear tales of bears, and eat forest fruits that you have foraged yourself on a brief walk out of town. Here you can uncover the secrets of the land, and what lies beneath it. Here you are part ...

Rick visits the home of his friend and Slovenian tour guide, Tina Hiti, to learn about family life in Slovenia, and how things have changed since living under Yugoslavia's "Third Way." Slovenia was the first Yugoslav republic to hold free elections and became independent in 1991. Thanks to its long-standing ties to the West and can-do spirit, Slovenia feels quite "Western," yet Slovenes proudly retain their own traditions and culture. Slovenia is a paradise for safe and relatively easy exploration of canyons. Canyoning is in Slovenia one of the most popular activities in the summer time, also due to the fact that canyons are extremely beautiful, diverse, full of waterfalls and deep pools. If you are at least a bit of a researcher, nature lover and you like to do something wild and sportive, then canyoning in Slovenia is the right thing for you.
